Show and Tell--Crooked Pinkies

I inherited "crooked pinkies," (as I call them) from my Dad's side of the family...

My Dad's uncle had crooked pinkies on both hands. However his brother (my grandfather) did not have them.) My Dad does not have crooked pinkies. Yet, my Dad's younger sister, my Aunt Nan has crooked pinkies on both of her hands. But, none of Nan's three daughters have crooked pinkies. I'm' my Dad's only child who has the "crooked pinkies" and I have them on both hands. I passed this on to my daughter...but she only has a crooked pinkie on her right hand. Guess she's trying to change the gene-dynamics after all these years?

This is a totally weird and random Show-and-Tell, but I guess I'm photographing our pinkies for future generations. (Yeah, that's it...)

At first glance, not so different, right?

Em's crooked pinky on top of mine...

Em's right hand (not nearly as crooked as mine, but still more so than her left hand.)

My crooked pinkies side by side.

Just to show how crooked and short my pinkies really are, the piece of paper above indicates where the top "knuckle" on my ring-finger is. This is the location where the top of most people's pinkies hits their ring fingers.

I knew my pinkies were crooked, but I didn't realize how significantly SHORTER they are as compared to the norm, until I took acoustic guitar lessons a few years ago. When I was having difficulty stretching my fingers to reach an F-chord, my instructor was awed by the short span between my pinkie and thumb. Interesting, hey?

Wow... isn't it amazing the things that travel thru families? I have my bio-dad's bum chin (big time dimple in the middle of my chin). My nephew got my foster-mom's angel wing shoulder blades.

Very odd show and tell, but I'm intrigued! I was sitting here looking at my own fingers and checking out their length. LOL

Thanks for commenting on my blog. Very interesting show & tell! the dominant trait in my family stems from my mom's side. Every single person who shares even a drop of blood from that side ahs the same chin. I've met cousins I never knew had & totally recognized them from the chin alone. LOL!!

Very cool show and tell! My brother has a double crown (or I guess, HAD one, until he started shaving his hair really short/almost bald). His son inherited one, then his daughter, and we're placing bets that his new son will have one, too. Genetics is an awesome thing.

I adore genetics, I wish I had the scientific mind to study it for a living.

my pinkies are crooked on both hands but only because I broke them playing netball (at different times, I'm not too much of a klutz!), I never knew it was a genetic trait also.

I inherited double-jointed knees from my Dad and Grandmother.

I never knew people could inherit things like that. They don't look too bad actually, a bit short but cute somehow. Fun show and tell.

Ha ha! I can totally relate. My family has crooked pinkies too. When I was in high school, my little bro was about 9ish. I had a friend over and they were wrestling. (It was my guy friend!) My brother looked at his pinky and screamed, "EWW, your pinky is straight!?" Too funny, we had explain to him that we were the weird ones! :)

OK - was totally checking the length of my pinkies while reading. I guess my oddity is that my thumb on my left hand bends totally backwards at the knuckle. Kind of gross and cool at the same time.

Very cool. Much better than many other inherited traits. :)

Thank you for supporting me (again). :) You are a good friend.

Peace.

That's an amazing quirk with your pinky fingers! I never thought of stuff like that being "inheritable." Hmmm.. You learn something new every day.
